MARLTON, N.J., June 28, 2010 - Perry Resources, a division of Perry Resources, announces Cynthia Lee of Medford, N.J. as the winner of its 5th Annual Scholarship Award. Lee, 18, was presented with a check for $1,000, which she plans to use toward her first semester at Tufts University this fall.
Lee, selected from among 25 applicants this year, was chosen based on her grades/academic achievement, activities, community involvement, leadership, and an essay. She was chosen by the Scholarship Selection Committee, comprised of Human Resource professionals in the area. This year's judges were Scott Agostini, Human Resources Manager at Ulticom in Mt. Laurel; Zina Abdel-Wahab, Staffing Manager at Automated Resources International (ARI) in Mt. Laurel; and Nicholas Goblirsch, Senior HR Manager at Charming Shoppes, Bensalem, Pa.
"This year we had an outstanding field of applicants, and I know it was a very difficult choice for the judges. They all have such bright futures," says David Weiss, Perry Resources' manager of client relations and business development. "Cynthia Lee exhibits all the qualities we'd like to see in our future business and community leaders, and then some. Perry Resources is very pleased to recognize her with this award."
Ms. Lee attended Shawnee High School, where she played violin, and she is a volunteer with Engineers Without Borders. She plans to major in engineering with the goal of becoming a civil engineer, and hopes to play violin for the Tufts Orchestra. This summer, she will attend Bible camp and swim for the Dearbrook Tri-County Swim League in Medford.
Perry Resources was founded in 1986 to address the temporary staffing needs of businesses in Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties. Also part of Perry Resources, David Perry Associates is a recruiting firm which places permanent sales and marketing candidates in the consumer products industry. Both companies are members of the Mid-Atlantic Association of Personnel Consultants. Past recipients of the award funds have gone on to use their "jump start" in a variety of ways. 2008's winner, Shawnee High School graduate Lindsay Sewekow, went on to Caldwell College in August with a brand new computer that she purchased with the check that Perry gave her after being chosen as the Scholarship Award recipient. In fact, Lindsay states that the new equipment has helped her do more than the class work and homework involved with her studies as a Business/Marketing major. It has also allowed her to keep in regular contact with friends and family from home.
As with most college experiences, discovery plays a large part in shaping education; just having completed her second semester, Lindsay has a new found favoritism toward Math & Science subject areas, making her potential career path choices plentiful. With a current GPA of 3.6, it's evident to PerryPeople that the choice to help support Lindsay's first year in college has proven to be a good one.
